Prepare copper tubing for DIY projects with a hydraulic expander designed to reduce effort at the handle. Its free-floating, self-centering mechanism helps guide the tube for centered expansion, while the long handle and grip pad support comfortable operation.

Keep the included cutter and deburring tool close as you prepare tubing, then store the kit together in its carrying box between jobs. It’s a practical set for copper tube preparation at home or in the workshop.

  • Seven expander heads: Choose 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", or 1-1/8" heads for tubing from 10mm to 28mm in diameter.
  • Centered guidance: The free-floating, self-centering design helps keep tubing aligned as you expand it.
  • Reduced handle effort: Hydraulic operation is designed to take less effort at the handle; the long handle and grip pad support handling.
  • Kit contents: Includes the hydraulic expander, tube cutter, deburring tool, seven heads, a pair of gloves, and a carrying box.

Use soft copper, or anneal hard copper at the section you plan to expand. Deburr the inside, apply grease to the cone, and check that the tube fits freely over the head before pumping.

Fully attach the adapter to the pump shaft, then screw on your chosen head. Tighten the relief valve and pump until the handle feels firm; loosen the valve to release the finished tube. Never force or twist tubing onto the head. If it sticks because of its shape or burrs, unscrew the adapter and head together from the pump body.

  • Seven expander heads: Choose from 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", and 1-1/8" sizes for tubing from 10mm to 28mm in diameter.
  • Centered expansion: The free-floating, self-centering mechanism helps guide your tubing, while the long handle and grip pad support comfortable operation.
  • Useful kit contents: You get the hydraulic expander, tube cutter, deburring tool, seven heads, a pair of gloves, and a carrying box.
  • Prepare and operate carefully: Use soft copper or anneal hard tubing, deburr the inside, and apply grease to the cone. Let the tube fit freely—never force or twist it—then pump until the handle feels firm and loosen the relief valve to release it.

Step 1

Use soft copper tube or heat (anneal) the section of hard copper tubing to be expanded.

Step 2

De-burr the inner walls of the tubing completely and make sure the tube will fit easily over the expander head.

DO NOT FORCE THE TUBE OVER THE EXPANDER HEAD!

Step 3

Apply lubricant (preferably grease) to the cone before using.

Step 4

Screw the adapter onto the shaft of the pump all the way.

Step 5

Screw the selected expander head onto the adapter.

Step 6

Place the tubing onto the expander head. Make sure that the expander head travels into the tube FREELY.

WARNING!! Do not force or twist the tube while you are placing the tube on the expander head.

Step 7

Tighten the relief valve knob and pump handle until tubing is expanded and pump handle becomes firm.

Step 8

Loosen the relief valve knob to release the finished tubing. If the tube does not release from the die head because of tube configuration or burrs, unscrew the adapter and die head (together) from the pump body.
